Sofia. Bulgarian Ministry of Transport is actively working on setting up new railway projects, which will be carried out after 2014, Bulgarian Minister of Transport Danail Papazov announced at the sod-turning ceremony of the new railway between the towns of Harmanli and Svilengrad. The ministry allocated some €35 million from the funds of Operational Programme Transport, Monitor daily reports. He added that the main priorities for the 2014-2020 period were renovation of the railway section between the towns of Plovdiv and Burgas, as well as the completion of the railway to the Serbian, Greek and Turkish borders. “Our purpose is to develop and upgrade Bulgarian railway network in order to develop the country’s economic potential. The European Commission set the development of the region’s railway potential as a strategic goal,” Mr Papazov said. He added that if Bulgaria carried out the railway projects, this could help the country to apply for and buy new trains and carriages, Sega daily points out.
