Sofia. The projects for building a ring road in the northern town of Gabrovo and the western section of Sofia’s ring road can be implemented with European financing, announced the press centre of the Council of Ministers.
On 4 October 2013 the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications received an official letter from the European Commission about the projects sent for consideration – the project for a ring road in the town of Gabrovo, which includes a tunnel under the peak of Shipka, and a project for the modernization of the western section of Sofia’s ring road. The two projects were sent to the European Commission for final approval on September 26 and 20 respectively. The letter the ministry received reads that the European Commission will not consider the two projects, until the issue with the funds contracted above the program’s budget for railway projects is solved. The letters do not mention that the projects are denied European financing. European Commission experts say the project can be sent for consideration once again after the above mentioned issue is solved. In other words, the European Commission postpones the consideration and there is no mention that the projects are denied European assistance.
