Sofia. The Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) has had good financial results in the recent months, Bulgarian Transport Minister Danail Papazov told journalists, cited by FOCUS News Agency.
I think it is an ambitious goal, but it is not impossible to make BDZ a profitable company. This would happen for the first time in many years. The BDZ was subsidized with serious sums, but there are no results and we are certain that a new path should be taken, he said.
He added that in the first five months of the year the state-run company had more than BGN 25 million in losses and now they were almost halved.
Without good infrastructure and rolling stock it is impossible to improve the service the BDZ offers. That’s why it is highly important to conclude the negotiations with the creditors in September.
